For decades, scrap has been bought and sold on physical descriptions, checked by a subjective visual inspection. The CBRM ends that. Processors can ship shredded scrap to a consumer's chemistry specification, and mills and foundries can buy and use material on its metallurgical value. Slow, imprecise inspection, sampling and statistics give way to Gamma-Shred analysis: a real-time, accurate composite chemistry of the scrap itself.
Certify your scrap products to your customers. Buyers choose known material over unknown, and material that beats commodity grade standards can earn a premium. Chemistry data also makes value-added blending possible: combine multiple grades to meet each consumer's melting needs, the biggest payback for most processors.
Report the chemistry of incoming material and pay for scrap on its value-in-use. Instead of relying on statistics from historical heats, you know the composite chemistry of every shipment, so you can optimize the charge and substitute lower-cost scrap with confidence. The savings are significant.
A typical installation pairs a surge feed hopper, loaded by mobile crane, front-end loader or overhead crane, with a variable-speed conveyor that presents material evenly to the analyzer. A stacking conveyor after the CBRM can load straight into charge buckets, rail cars, trucks, barges or inventory piles. The CBRM fits existing conveyors or new material handling systems and analyzes over 200 tons per hour.
Each analyzer is calibrated for the elements that matter to your operation, and installations have delivered composite chemistries close to spectrographic accuracy. Results appear on screen and can be stored or printed: the current analysis, an average over any time period, and the analysis of each batch, with batch size set by the operator.
Gamma-Tech provides the analyzer, software, maintenance, application consulting and remote performance monitoring. Every batch gets an analysis sheet showing tons and the percentage of each major element, which travels with the shipping papers to the buyer. Service customers may market their material under the Gamma-Shred, Gamma-Twitch, Gamma-Zorba and Gamma-Aluminum Analysis names.
